Norma Maye Hamilton Seals says that she grew up in Wylie, Texas. Her father was William L. Hamilton. “It was a small town where we knew practically everyone in town, Norma says.” She graduated Wylie High School around 1950 before she was wooed and wed by Howard Thurman Bentley.
Mrs. Seals says she is retired now, but still considers Wylie her home town. She has been widowed twice and says it is so difficult to loose those that we are so close to. She now lives in the Midland, Texas area where teaching a Silver Sneakers class at a local gym for two hours a week which keeps her busy and near her children.
Norma remembers Ernest Tubb coming over to their house many times when during her childhood days. Her dad played the fiddle and Ernest really enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.
The photo of Norma and Earnest was taken at the Community Schoolhouse on April 19, 1982 in southeast Collin County. “Wilbur Roe, of Wylie, says, “I remember being at your home once when your dad was sick and Ernest Tub walked in with his guitar. He wanted to play and sing a few songs in order to make him feel better.”
Ernest even remembered Norma from back when she was growing up. When she showed up at the Community Schoolhouse many years later, “He looked at me and said, you were that little blonde tyke. Come on up here so we can get a photo of us together.” She also says that he was a good man. He started out singing on the street corners before he became famous.
