HENRY LINDSLEY, III Obituary, Dec. 12, 1928- Apr. 12, 2011
Married Granddaughter of President & Elanor Roosevelt

Businessman Henry Lindsley, grandson of former Dallas mayor, dies at 82.

Henry Dickinson Lindsley III built on his family’s nearly 150-year history in Dallas TX through numerous business arenas.

He had wide-ranging financial interests that stretched from Dallas to West Texas and New Mexico, where he operated Higginbotham Bartlett Co., a chain of lumber yards.

His résumé included positions in Dallas as a regional vice president of Braniff Airways, as well as with the brokerage firms of Schneider Burnet & Hickman and Lehman Brothers.

Mr. Lindsley, 82, died Tuesday of natural causes at his Dallas home.

A celebration of his life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, where he enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

“Dad loved to be with people,” said his daughter Ruth of Dallas. “His favorite thing to do was to tell a good story or a funny story.”

Henry was born in Dallas, where his grandfather Henry D. Lindsley was elected mayor in 1915.

After graduating from Highland Park High School, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

In 1956, he married Chandler Roosevelt, a granddaughter of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He lived in Midland and Brownsville, developing his lumberyard business, before he and wife returned to Dallas in 1965.

They traveled the world on bird hunting expeditions, their daughter said.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his son, Hays Lindsley of Dallas; another daughter, Chandler Lindsley of McKinney; a sister, Cathy Rogers of Anthem, Ariz.; a brother, Don Lindsley of Dallas; and six grandchildren.
